On Sunday, bluegrass festival music ends at 4 p.m. After that, a short walk away, the Maria Muldaur benefit schedule is as follows:

• 4:30 p.m. – VIP ticket holders can enter the newly opened venue, The Hall and Old Mill and Distillery, for a “meet and greet” with Maria and her band.

• 5:30 p.m. – Cajun Jambalaya dinner for VIP ticket holders.

• 6:30 p.m. – Doors open for general admission to the show, which starts at 7 p.m.

The Maria Muldaur event is a benefit for the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, a local grassroots nonprofit that works to “preserve and protect Mount Shasta’s unique and pristine environment.”

Maria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1974 hit song “Midnight at the Oasis,” which received several Grammy nominations and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 50-year career could best be described a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music.

During the folk revival of the early ’60s, she began exploring and singing early Blues, Bluegrass and Appalachian “Old Timey” Music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band and shortly thereafter, joining the popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with them throughout the '60s.

In the 43 years since “Midnight at the Oasis,” Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 40 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Big Band, before settling comfortably in recent years into her favorite idiom, the Blues, and “Bluesiana” music, her own brand of New Orleans flavored Blues, R&B and Swamp Funk.

Often joining forces with some of the top names in the business, Maria has recorded and produced on average an album per year, several of which have been nominated for Grammy and other awards.

About McCloud Mountain Bluegrass 2017

The 5th annual McCloud Mountain Bluegrass is a McCloud Chamber of Commerce event and is made possible by volunteers and the support of community businesses and individuals.

The lineup of performers includes Grammy-nominated artists Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum; Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising, winner of the 2016 IMEA Bluegrass Song of the Year; hot new band Blue Summit featuring AJ Lee; and, back by popular demand, Rita Hosking Trio, Old Kennett String Band and Mossy Creek, who were audience favorites at last year’s festival, according to the McCloud Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s McCloud Mountain Bluegrass will benefit Young Imaginations, a non-profit partner of the McCloud Chamber of Commerce working to expand music education programs at the McCloud Elementary and High School.
