The scene during one of the annual Film Under the Stars events is circus-like before the film begins, including a costume contest, face painting, a juggler and other family-friendly activities.
This year the Mount Shasta Community Resource Center is partnering with the Mount Shasta International Film Festival to present “Toy Story” on July 10 on the Mt. Shasta Resort driving range.
The fun is scheduled to begin at
6 p.m. including free ice cream and books from the Community Resource Center. Toy Story starts at dusk.
The event is a fundraiser for the 2010 Mt. Shasta International Film Festival.  While the Festival is taking a year off in 2009, this and other events are being held to keep it going in the future.
This is the sixth year for the Film Under the Stars and “it gets bigger every year,” according to Film Festival founder and director Jeffrey Winters.
Toy Story, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, follows previous Under the Stars classic family films such as Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, ET, Nemo, Shrek, and The Wizard of Oz.
Children who dress in costumes for the Film Under the Stars will be judged by volunteers. Every child who enters will receive a gift.
Before the film, volunteers will walk to all the families and friends on blankets to pass out free treats.
Community Resource directors are contacting low income families to invite them to attend free of charge. They are encouraged to bring their families. Free invitations are also given to Hospice workers and their families.
Tickets are sold that night before the film and at Village Books in Mount Shasta.
