The McCloud Community Services District board of directors on Tuesday, Aug. 3, accepted “with regrets” the resignation of general manager Van Robinson, effective Aug. 27.

Board members and several residents expressed their appreciation of Robinson during the special meeting. He has been with the district  five months.

“You have such a positive attitude, board vice president Anne Simons said. “I’m sure the whole town will miss you.”

Director Tim Dickinson praised Robinson for bringing a stability and calmness to the town.

Board president Al Schoenstein said he always gave everyone time.

Robinson responded with emotion, “On behalf of me and my family, we appreciate the warmth, the hospitality, and support that we have received.  It’s meant a lot.”

Robinson resigned due to “personal and family related issues” that require him to return to Las Vegas with his wife Kim and son Jacob.

He has offered to continue to act as a consultant for the District after Aug. 27. The board said it will explore that possibility.

After a slide show presentation by Robinson, the board unanimously approved the adoption and implementation of his recommendations to move the district into a predominately preventative maintenance mode.

His recommendations for transitioning into a preventative maintenance mode include:

• Hiring a new general manager with the right blend of planning, technical and administrative experience.

• Substantially increasing the technical and administrative responsibilities of the field staff.

• Developing a living, dynamic Preventative Maintenance Plan of Operations and process of implementation that meet the goals.
