Former Mount Shasta city councilor Katrina Howard pled guilty to two drug related felonies in a Yreka courtroom Friday afternoon as part of a plea bargain.

Howard cried quietly as she pled guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime (specifically, the sale of marijuana) and possession of marijuana for sale with the special allegation of being armed with a firearm.

Her maximum sentence would be five years in state prison with three years parole, said Judge Karen Dixon. Howard will also be required to register as a narcotics offender.

Now 42, Howard was arrested along with her co-defendant, 21 year old Jules Unger, in January 2009 after an undercover drug operation at both Mount Shasta and Yreka high schools. Howard was a city councilor at the time.

Her plea bargain is contingent upon Unger’s guilty plea, which is expected on Wednesday, March 10. At that time, a date for a felony sentencing will be set, said Siskiyou County Deputy District Attorney Martha Aker, who is prosecuting the case.
