The Weed Chamber of Commerce will host their 25th Annual Chinese “Oxtion” on Feb. 21 at the Weed Sons of Italy Hall.
The longstanding Weed event has been a big hit since its inception, providing a fun evening for all as well as an opportunity for the Chamber to raise funds for other annual events.
A Chinese auction is like a raffle; each prize has its own “hat.” This allows buyers to choose which prizes they want to focus on.
For this event, participants will be given two options to play. One way is to buy a $25 dollar dinner ticket and to bring coins to bid on the various packages as desired. Packages have a bid range from 25 cents to $5.
The other option is to buy an “Ox Box.” An Ox Box costs the player $60 and includes dinner, 10 drink tickets, and a chance to bid on all of the available packages.
Serving as the MC’s for this year’s event are Randall Lawrence, the new College of the Siskiyous President, and Rory McNeil, the former Mayor of Yreka.
The doors open at 5 p.m. with a fully catered dinner by the Garden Party to follow at 6 p.m.
There will be numerous packages to bid on, including a grand finale prize of a week long stay at a condo in Hawaii, donated by Bob Davis.
Following the Chinese auction, there will be music and dancing until midnight, with music by DJ Mark Hofer.
The funds raised by the event will be used to fund the Weed Carnevale in July, Abner Weed Days in September, and Weed’s Olde Fashion Christmas in December.
Given the limited number of tickets available, people are encouraged to get their tickets early.
Tickets are available at the Weed Chamber of Commerce, Weed Scott Valley Bank, Weed Building Supply, and from event coordinator Sheryl Wilson at 859-0360. In Mt. Shasta, they are available at the Chevron Sports and Spirits. Tickets are no longer available at Miner Street Station in Yreka.
Chairpersons for the event are Sheryl Wilson, Linda Carlin and Marilyn Yawnick.
