Folks wanting to dunk Mayor Peter Arth at this weekend's Railroad Days should plan to arrive early, as long lines are expected for the dunking, which will start at 2 p.m. at the Children's Park this Saturday.
“We appreciate the Mayor’s willingness to participate, as we’re sure this will go a long ways toward funding next year's Railroad Days,” stated Railroad Days chair Tim Holt.
Participants will pay $2 for the privilege of dunking Dunsmuir's mayor, twice the going rate for other dunkees.
The three-day event begins Friday at 4 p.m. with live music from Redding band Straight Ahead and a “Meet The Trains” ceremony at 6 p.m. to welcome vintage trains from the Western Pacific Railroad Museum and Union Pacific.
That will be followed by a full weekend featuring live music and dance, model trains, a Saturday noontime parade, kids’ activities including a L’il Engineer contest and Diaper Derby, local author booths, and a raffle.
The grand prizes in the raffle, roundtrip Amtrak tickets from Dunsmuir to Seattle and Dunsmuir to Los Angeles, will be awarded at 4:45 p.m. Sunday on the Upper Pine Street Stage, just before a performance by the Mountain Gypsies. You can become eligible for the raffle with the purchase of a $1 RR Days button that also provides admission to the vintage railroad equipment at the Union Pacific Railyards.
Major sponsors for this year's Railroad Days include the City of Dunsmuir, the Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce, PremierWest Bank, Dunsmuir Mercantile Company, Roseburg Forest Products.
