Mount Shasta, Calif. -

As I write this, it is Independence Day. This day always provides food for thought.
I did manage to watch the parade. It brought back many treasured memories. The “Curves” float especially made me smile. A close friend was showing off hers; curves, that is.
Other memories included my own daughter as a cheerlea aader and as a gymnast, participating in the parade; and memories of my son in his various scout uniforms soberly marching in the parade.
I stood near an obvious family reunion. That brought back treasured memories, too.  I especially remember watching one of Mt. Shasta’s Fourth Parades with my daughter and son-in-law. He is no longer with us, due to a nasty motorcycle accident, but I remember that he really got a kick out of the parade.
It is really a “Family” weekend. There are all kinds of get-togethers and reunions, picnics to enjoy, and fireworks to watch.
It’s a perfect time for family members to tell and/or listen to those stories that will add to their family history.
If you are working on your family history, please remember that the Family History Center at the back of Mt. Shasta’s Latter-day Saints Church on Adams Drive awaits you.  There library is well stocked and there are helpful volunteers to guide you at no charge for their service. Regular hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or you call for an appointment at 926-6671.
