Felon Joshua Lee arrested after standoff with hostage

Joshua Lee, the 33 year old Montague man wanted for attempted murder, was arrested yesterday evening after barricading himself inside a Yreka apartment with a hostage and threatening to kill himself, according to the Yreka Police Department.

Gold thieves entered Siskiyou courthouse through open window

Two men who stole an estimated $3 million worth of gold from the Siskiyou County Courthouse early this morning came in through an open window and did not set off the alarm.

Muir descendant offers State Park-saving advice

More than 100 years ago, world famous naturalist John Muir fought to save Yosemite and create the world’s first national park system. On Jan. 25, 2012 his great, great grandson, Robert Hanna, arrived in Mount Shasta to assist in organizing the effort to save Castle Crags State Park, one of 70 parks slated for closure by the State of California as a budget cutting measure.
