Jaden Anderson is the sixth Mount Shasta High School senior to receive the award in its 35 year history.

Mount Shasta High School senior Jaden Anderson is the 2017 boys recipient of the 35th annual Scholar Athlete Award presented by the Redding Record Searchlight and Rotary Club of Redding.

Anderson and girls award winner Karly Gutermuth of Trinity High School both received scholarships worth $1,500 during a luncheon on May 4 at Riverview Golf & Country Club in Redding. Ten other north state finalists each received $500.

Anderson, who helped the Mount Shasta boys track and field team win its fifth consecutive league championship Friday in Durham, is the sixth MSHS senior to win the regional scholar athlete award in its 35 years.

As reported by the Record Searchlight, Anderson has a 3.98 weighted grade point average, has been a volunteer tutor and a member of Athlete Committed and the Interact Club.

In sports, Anderson was all-league in four sports his senior year: cross country, soccer, ski racing and track.

He won the league cross country championship this past November, won the 1600 meter race in Friday’s league championships in Durham, and ran on Mount Shasta’s league champion 4 by 400 meter relay team both last year and this year.

In cross country, he was all-league the past three years in a row and qualified for the state championships each of those years.
