The 36th annual Fun Run/Walk will be held the final day of Mount Shasta's 2017 July 4th celebration, which is scheduled to start with a Chamber of Commerce mixer and vendors on Castle Street the evening of July 1.
The 36th annual Mount Shasta July 4th Fun Run/Walk is fast approaching, and Mountain Runners members are busy getting ready for the big day.
“This is a huge, fun undertaking that brings the community together each year to celebrate our nation and our community,” says Mountain Runners board member Dusty Miller. “This year, we awarded grant funding to the Mt. Shasta Nordic Ski Organization Youth Program, and the Mount Shasta High School Track and Field Team.”
The Fun Run/Walk tradition will continue with food tasting and music along the route for what has often been described as a parade in reverse – the entertainment lines the course, while those being entertained are in motion.
After the running and walking is completed, one lucky registered participant will win the grand raffle drawing prize – a white 2017 Subaru Impreza from Redding Subaru. All run participants are automatically entered into the drawing for the car and a variety of other valuable prizes donated by local merchants.
A t-shirt is also included in the run registration and local Dunsmuir artist Bridget Shaw designed this year’s graphic.
“I was born and raised in Mount Shasta, and have always loved the Fourth of July festivities. I remember looking forward to the shirt design every year, and it feels great to contribute to the tradition,” said Shaw.
“The Fourth of July in Mount Shasta has always been very special to me, even when I lived in the Bay Area, I never missed it. I have a lot of friends and family who do the same, and every year feels like a family reunion. It’s an honor to play a part in the holiday through my art, and I’m so excited to see the crowd wearing my design, it will be surreal, I’m sure,” added Shaw.
New this year, the registration site has moved from the Armory to the Siskiyou Masonic Lodge/Community Building at 629 Alder Street in Mount Shasta. Due to a scheduling conflict, the Armory was not available this year.
Fun Run/Walk registration is now open at www.mtshastarunners.com.
Mountain Runners is also looking for volunteers to help on the morning of July 4th. Contact Justi Hansen at 530-925-2359 or email@example.com for details.
The Run/Walk is part of the larger annual Mount Shasta 4th of July celebration that is scheduled to begin with a Chamber of Commerce Mixer the evening of July 1 at 5 p.m. with live music by Love Bite/Zepdrix and Billy Williams. Vendors will be open on Castle Street.
Castle Street vendors, a street faire on Mt. Shasta Blvd. and live music will be ongoing Sunday and Monday, July 2 and 3.
The annual 4th of July parade downtown is scheduled to start after the Run/Walk, at noon on Tuesday, July 4.
The celebration will conclude, as always, with a fireworks show over Lake Siskiyou beginning at dusk.
