Born Dec. 7, 1918, Will Wheeler of McCloud celebrated his 99th birthday on Pearl Harbor Day.

An Army veteran who served in World War II, Wheeler was the McCloud bank manager when McCloud was a company owned town.

He has lived on Wetzel Ave. in McCloud since 1957. He was married to his wife June for 64 years until her passing in 2014.

Wheeler speaks of his love of fishing, hunting and skiing. He was a leader in the community, serving on the McCloud Community Services District, the American Legion Post 92, the McCloud Chamber of Commerce, and the Siskiyou Golden Fair board.

When asked his secret to longevity, he jokes, “Good whiskey and wild women. The next 100 years are going to be better.”
