Quick response from fire personnel saved the old Episcopal Church on California Street in McCloud from burning down Friday morning.

The call was reported by a guest staying at the McCloud Hotel across the street from the building. Smoke was reportedly seen coming out of the windows and attic.

Fire crews from McCloud Volunteer Fire Department were first on scene along with CAL FIRE and Mt. Shasta Fire Department. The fire was under control within minutes, contained to the great room by the wood stove. The cause of the fire was undetermined as of early Friday afternoon.

This same structure was saved from a flue fire in the early 1990s.

The building is now used as a private residence. No one was in the home at the time of the fire.
