It’s snowing Friday morning, March 23, in the City of Mount Shasta, and a National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. for heavy snow above 4,000 feet in the Mount Shasta area.

Also, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Friday below 4,000 feet.

Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast in the warning area, with snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches in the advisory area.

The warning for elevations above 4,000 feet includes Highway 89 between McCloud and Mount Shasta City.

The advisory for below 4,000 feet, includes Interstate 5 near Mount Shasta City and Dunsmuir, and Highway 97 between Macdoel and Weed, and the Tennant area.

The heaviest period of snowfall is expected to occur late Friday afternoon through Friday evening. Road accumulations are expected to be greatest this evening.
