The Upper Sacramento River Regional Water Action Group quarterly meeting has been scheduled for June 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Dunsmuir. A morning workshop will explore how Mt. Shasta, Dunsmuir and McCloud are addressing climate and water issues through collaborative planning, and continue working toward eligibility for state funding. All are welcome to attend, and RSVP is appreciated.
Representing diverse municipal, Tribal, and organizational stakeholders, RWAG works to coordinate priorities and streamline water quality projects in the Upper Sacramento, McCloud, and Lower Pit River area. The group represents these local watersheds in California’s Integrated Regional Water Management planning program, administered by the California Department of Water Resources.
As reported in a press release, state-approved IRWM Plans are required in order to qualify for funds under several California bond measures. The USR RWAG adopted a Plan in 2014 and successfully obtained more than $8 million in Prop 84 funding for local water infrastructure repairs, data gathering, outreach and working forest conservation projects. Under contract with DWR, The River Exchange, a Dunsmuir non-profit organization, is currently revising the USR IRWM Plan in order to comply with new State standards. These standards bring new emphasis on the urgency of evaluating climate change, presence of contaminants, and Tribal representation in watershed governance.
Feedback from workshop attendees will inform the USR IRWM Plan Update. River Exchange subcontractors Rico Tinsman and Angelina Cook will report on plan update progress and discuss opportunities for improving effective participation in collaborative watershed management.
Interested parties who cannot attend the workshop are invited to review chapter revisions on the website www.uppersacirwm.org during the months of July and August. The comment period will close in September and draft updates will be finalized in fall 2018. For more information, contact Phil Detrich at email@example.com.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 7, at 5727 Dunsmuir Ave. The Plan Update workshop will occur from 10 a.m. to noon, and the RWAG’s regular meeting will follow, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. To attend, it’s requested you reply to firstname.lastname@example.org or call (530) 859-2083 by Tuesday, June 5.
