Fans of old-time, down home music are in for a treat when Dunsmuir’s Railroad Days event rolls into town Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 8, 9 and 10. See schedule below.

For fans of contemporary music, there’ll be a Battle Of The Bands, featuring seven contestants and a variety of music, on the main stage Friday at 5 p.m.

A full day of Saturday events kicks off with the annual River Run and Rotary Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m. The Mr. and Miss Little Engineer Contest starts at 10 a.m., with a parade on the main street at noon. Live entertainment starts at 1 p.m. on the main stage.

Tex Ash of Red Bluff will be hosting an Old Time Fiddle Contest on the main stage near City Hall starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Ash and his wife Sharon Barrett stage the second largest fiddle contest in the United States, the Western Open Fiddle Championships, in October in Red Bluff.

After the fiddle contest, George Fredson and his Down Home String Band from Redding will appear on the main stage.

Sunday’s activities include six hours of soapbox derby competition starting at 9 a.m. on Dunsmuir Avenue, for both youth and adult contestants; and, starting at 1 p.m., a classic car “Show ‘n’ Shine” in the City Hall and U.S. Bank parking lots.

Throughout the weekend there will be food and craft vendors, and a beer garden next to the main stage.

Kids’ activities will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Children’s Park on Dunsmuir Avenue.

The Dunsmuir Museum next to the Amtrak station will be open throughout the festivities. On Saturday starting at 10 a.m. the Dunsmuir Library will feature a book sale. The Siskiyou Arts Museum on main street will feature a railroad-themed exhibit from the Black Butte Center For Railroad Culture.

An information booth will be set up at Pine Street and Dunsmuir Avenue starting at 3 p.m. Friday. For more information call (530) 515-8005 or email dunsmuir.railroad.days@gmail.com.
