More than half an inch of rain was recorded at the Department of Water Resources weather station in Mount Shasta from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4, 2018 -- and some precipitation fell as snow high on the mountain.

That was close to the same amount of precipitation that fell during the previous four months of a dry spell that began in late May.

The DWR records its yearly precipitation total from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, and it shows just 19.69 inches of precipitation for the year ending Sept. 30, 2018.

Totals for the previous three years were 59.77, 40.97 and 35.32. That followed the dry year ending Sept. 30, 2014, when only 14.96 inches of precipitation were recorded at the Mount Shasta weather station.
