A man struck by a moving train was pronounced dead at the scene Friday morning, Nov. 16, near the Graffiti Bridge undercrossing north of Abrams Lake in Mount Shasta, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office.

The identification of the deceased man was pending notification of next-of-kin as of Friday afternoon, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

The Sheriff’s Office says its investigators are working with Union Pacific Railroad authorities “to gather additional information and evidence in support of the death investigation.”

A preliminary investigation revealed there were no vehicles involved in the incident.

Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of the fatal incident Friday at about 9:47 a.m., according to the release.

“On behalf of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the decedent, his family, and friends in the aftermath of his death,” Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey states in the release.

He said a post-mortem examination will be conducted within the next few days and urges anyone with information about the incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office’s 24-Hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.
