You may know him as Sean Monaghan of Mount Shasta, but he’s now known as Sean Connor in Hollywood.
Sean spent June 1 performing in Hollywood for a minimum of 12 commercial talent agencies, as well as two television talent agencies.
As of late last week he had received call-backs from two of the agencies, Diverse Talent Group and Bobby Ball Talent Agency, and he is scheduled to meet with them this summer.
“I’m really excited about it,” said Sean, who will be starting his senior year at Mount Shasta High School in the fall. “I would like to have this be a career.”
Sean was referred to, auditioned for, and was accepted to enroll in a 10-week commercial talent prep coarse in Redding in January of this year.
He worked hard preparing for his auditions; having to write his own commercials, which he performed, prepare his resume, cover letter, develop several different “looks” for his character head shots and select a stage name, “Sean Connor.”
“I couldn’t believe I was down there doing it,” said Sean, whose previous acting experiences include performances at Sisson School and Mount Shasta High School.
In March, Sean was used in the movie “Sensored,” which is scheduled for release on Halloween this year.
As a background character, he’s not sure if he’ll be seen in the film, but the experience of being on a movie set for a full day was priceless for anyone considering this field as a career.
The filming was done at the Funderland Amusement Park in Sacramento.
Sean is the son of Michael and Rhonda Monaghan of Mount Shasta; grandson of Ned and Carol Boss of Mount Shasta and Joan and Frank Monaghan of New York.
His parents say they hope he will “gain grounded self-confidence, become aware of his talent and his limits, and find out if this direction is actually where he wants to go.”
From family friends who have been in the business a long time, Sean has learned it’s a difficult business and not meant for everyone. Especially young teens, who can be easily crushed by constant rejection.
His coaches think he has potential if he chooses to proceed.
His parents shared that this experience will also open up options in this career field for him to explore behind the camera as well, giving him a better idea of which college or performance school to attend for the choices he makes.
