A 34 year old Oroville man was transported to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta with major injuries after the 2003 Toyota Matrix he was driving slid out of control and struck the blade on a Caltrans snow plow early Monday afternoon near the Ski Park Highway exit on SR-89.
The Mount Shasta Area Highway Patrol office report of the collision states that the Matrix was traveling at an unknown rate of speed, but “preliminary reports indicate (it) was traveling too fast for the snowy conditions...”
The snow plow operator, a McCloud resident, was not injured, according to the CHP report.
A 28 year old female passenger in the Toyota was also transported to Mercy Mt. Shasta. No details were given regarding her condition.
Major damage was done to the Toyota and moderate damage to the snow plow, according to the CHP.
The snow plow operator was reported to be traveling southbound on SR-89, south of the Ski Park Highway exit, plowing and cindering the southbound lane at approximately 25 mph. The Toyota was traveling northbound on Snowman’s Summit approaching the Ski Park exit.
