Mount Shasta resident John Zanni was the coordinator of a fundraiser to benefit Corben Brooks and his family last Saturday at the Elks Lodge.
Last year was a whirlwind of fundraisers for Corben, a Mount Shasta High School senior who was seriously injured during a football scrimmage in August 2008.
“I’ve known Kevin (Corben’s father) since about first grade,” Zanni said, “and I wanted to do something for the family now that everything’s died down a little.”
The event took place at the Elks Lodge in Mount Shasta. The Elks donated a prime rib dinner, and raffle prizes were donated by Ace Hardware, Mane Street Salon in McCloud, and John’s Satellite.
About $500 was raised, Zanni said. “It wasn’t a lot, but every dollar counts.” The funds will go to the Brooks family to assist with costs related to Corben’s recovery.
Zanni, a lifelong Mount Shasta resident, often puts on fundraisers with the help of the Elks for organizations close to his heart. In the past few years, Zanni has helped raise over $3000 for charitable purposes.
