The third in a series of public forums regarding Nestle Waters North America’s reduced water bottling project proposal will focus on the watershed and habitat studies currently being conducted on Squaw Valley Creek.
The meeting has been scheduled for June 2 at 6 p.m. at McCloud Elementary School.
“We welcome the entire McCloud community and other interested citizens to this meeting to learn more about the water studies currently underway on Squaw Valley Creek and its surrounding habitat and to ask questions about the water resource issues related to our project,” said project manager Dave Palais.
“Protecting the water resources in McCloud is a priority for our company and the community and these studies will provide valuable and reliable information to use in evaluating our project and managing water resources for the long-term,” added Palais.
The forum is open to the public.
Joining Palais for the forum will be Brendan O’Rourke, director of natural resources for Nestle Waters North America, and Keith Marine of North State Resources, the environmental consulting firm conducting the studies.
The studies were started in the fall of 2008 and were designed in conjunction with experts from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California Davis, and in coordination with the McCloud Watershed Council and California Trout.
The evening will begin with a presentation by Nestle Waters and North State Resources on study design and implementation and on data collected to date.

The community’s feedback, in conjunction with the additional scientific studies that will be conducted on the revised project, will be used to shape the project proposal and develop a draft environmental impact report on the project, according to a press release from Nestle.
