The Mt. Shasta 4th of July celebration is off to a festive start, with downtown booths and food vendors seeing a strong Friday afternoon crowd. Tonight festivities will run until 8 p.m. and then pick up early tomorrow morning when the 5 mile run and the 2 mile run/walk are scheduled to start.

Temperatures reached the low 90s the first two days of Mount Shasta's 2009 Fourth of July celebration, and forecasts called for a small bit of cooling on Saturday.
Live music continued to be a big hit on the Castle Street Stage, along with the street faire and vendor booths. Registration for Saturday morning's Walk/Run was ongoing at the National Guard Armory and was reported to have reached 3,500.
