Two Grenada residents were arrested Monday after allegedly robbing Fergie’s Market on Highway A-12 using a samurai-type sword.
David Lansdown, 26, and Renee Hamilton, 43, were arrested by Siskiyou County Sheriff’s deputies with the assistance of the Yreka Police Department and the California Highway Patrol not long after the robbery was reported around 6:30 p.m., said Allison Giannini, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
The store owner reported a man and a woman entered the store and while the woman stood in the doorway, the man pulled a sword from under his sweatshirt, Giannini said. He then demanded all the store’s cash, the store owner’s cell phone and keys to his vehicle.
After the store owner complied, the suspects left the store and fled in the victim’s pick-up truck, Giannini said. The victim then contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, deputies immediately issued an advisory to all law enforcement agencies for the store owner’s stolen vehicle, Giannini said. The YPD located the truck on Interstate 5 south of Walters Road after the vehicle was stopped at a local gas station. The two suspects were located in the stolen vehicle and subsequently arrested, Giannini said.
Lansdown was booked into Siskiyou County Jail on charges of burglary, robbery, terrorist threats, exhibition of deadly weapon and violation of Post Release Community Supervision provisions. His bail was set at $100,000, Giannini said.
Hamilton was booked on charges of burglary, robber, terrorist threats and exhibition of a deadly weapon. Her bail is also $100,000.
