Mount Shasta Elementary School parent and alumni Karrie Ann Snure is using her gift as a photographer to help the school cultivate its art and literacy programs.

Last week Snure donated a 16 by 24 inch metallic print of her photograph “Autumn Glory” to the school. During the months of October and November, 50 percent of all sales of the print will be donated to the school.

Last fall, Snure said she was saddened by the news of the district considering the closure of the Cedar Street school due to budgetary constraints.

“Being the historical sap that I am it inspired me to capture the school in a beautiful photograph that would help its memory live on for us no matter what happened,” Snure said. “On a Wednesday in November of 2010 as I was driving over the Lake Street overpass I saw the most beautiful and perfect view of the school with the fall colors and the mountain in the background. With a little creativity it came together as a wonderful  photograph.”

Snure said she chose art and literacy because her own art gives her a sense of purpose and outlet for creativity.
“I love inspiring and blessing others through portrait by helping them to feel good about who they are, and by taking scenic images that light up a room with beauty and help someone to smile,” Snure said.

She also chose to support literacy projects “because with the ability to read I have educated myself in human behavior and faith... which brought me from a place of confusion and depression to one of excitement and empowerment... This is just one way that I can contribute to the children of our community.”

The value of the donated print is $370. The Gallery in Mt. Shasta donated framing services in the amount of $200.
The sale price of the print will be $120, Snure said. To purchase a print you can visit www.livingshastaphotography.com and follow the prompts from the home page. Three sizing choices will be explained and available for the same price.

The original can be viewed hanging in the office at Mount Shasta Elementary  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday until Nov. 30. The Gallery in Mt. Shasta (in the Black Bear building) has also offered 10 percent of the framing proceeds from this print to Mount Shasta Elementary School.
