Authorities are urging anyone who has first-hand knowledge regarding the past history of the relationship between Charles Sturm and Kelly Jorgenson to contact the Sheriff’s Department.

Sturm, the suspect in the disappearance of 24 year-old Jorgenson, was arraigned in Siskiyou County Superior Court on Tuesday, June 1 by Judge Laura Masunaga, said Susan Gravenkamp, spokesperson for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department.

Sturm remains in custody with bail set at $1.5 million. He has been charged with murder and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the Jorgenson case.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and to make a positive identity of a woman’s body that was discovered in a remote area off Highway 96 north of Yreka is scheduled for Thursday, June 3, in Central Point, Ore. Results of the autopsy are expected to be released late Thursday afternoon, Gravenkamp said.

Sturm, 28, of Yreka, was arrested at his residence on Shamrock Road at around 5:30 p.m. on May 28 and booked into Siskiyou County Jail.

Sturm is the “on-again, off-again boyfriend” of Jorgenson,   who had last been seen at a party at the Sturm residence in mid April, said Gravenkamp.

Sturm’s arrest came after investigation by sheriff’s deputies and detectives which lead them to the body of a young woman who is believed to be Jorgenson.

“Siskiyou County Sheriff’s detectives continue to work on the case and appreciate the strong response from people coming forward revealing more information on what happened during the party at Sturm’s residence off of Shamrock Road where Kelly Jorgenson was last seen in mid-April,” said Gravenkamp. “This outpouring shows that the community has a strong interest in finding justice for Kelly Jorgenson and her family.”

Anyone with information should call Detective Sergeant Mark Hilsenberg at (530) 842-8767 or  Detective Ben Grossman at (530) 842-8764. Both of their telephones have voice mail where a message can be left anonymously if that is the desire of the caller, Gravenkamp added.
