Sat., Feb. 4

Transceiver clinic -- Avalanche Transceiver Clinic includes demos of several different types of avalanche transceivers or beacons. Learn how to use one to find someone buried in an avalanche. Meet at 9 a.m. at The Fifth Season in downtown Mount Shasta, then travel to training site. Dress to be outside on the snow.

Nordic & snowshoe -- Free Nordic and Snowshoe Day hosted by Shasta Disabled Sports USA and Mt. Shasta Nordic Ski Organization, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mt. Shasta Nordic Center. All ages and disabilities welcome.

Adaptive cross country skiing and showshoeing, potluck lunch, and warming fire. Equipment available at no cost. Reservations requested to ensure enough volunteers are on hand. Info: (530) 925-1531 or email: info@shastadsusa.org

1st Saturday dinner -- Coffee Connection’s 1st Saturday Dinner, 408 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd., Mount Shasta. Doors open, 5 p.m.; dinner served until 7:30 p.m. Serving roasted turkey with all the trimmings, coffee, tea, soda and dessert. Cost: $7, adults; $4, children under age 10. Dinners to go available. Softball sign-ups -- South Siskiyou Little League and Softball registration, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Subway, 86 N. Weed Blvd., Weed. Must have birth certificate. Skiing/snowshoeing -- Shasta Disabled Sports USA will host a Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center. Features potluck lunch and a fire. Lessons and equipment available on-site. Reservations required. Info: 925-1531 or email: info@shastadsusa.org

Genealogy research -- The Genealogical Society of Siskiyou County is celebrating its 40th anniversary all year long by offering monthly activities. For the month of February GSSC will record family histories and stories that anyone wants to share on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 912 S. Main Street in Yreka (behind Siskiyou County Museum). Narcotics Anonymous -- A Narcotics Anonymous Group meets each Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mountain View Apartments, Common Room, 268 E. Lake Street in Weed. Info: 842-7502.
