College of the Siskiyous’ all-time leading running back and a 2011 Junior College All-American, Cox signed his letter of intent Feb. 1, 2012.
Record setting Eagle RB to play for Weis at Kansas
Cox, the Mid Empire Conference Offensive MVP in 2011, and wideout Kyren Watts both signed on National Letter of Intent day to attend NCAA Division I school on full-ride scholarships.
Five other 2011 Eagles transferred to four year schools mid-year.
Watts, who had 34 receptions for 645 yards and 9 touchdowns as a sophomore at COS last fall, signed to become an Idaho Vanda.
He was a first-team Mid Empire Conference pick and an EA Sports Elite Camp attendee.
The 6-foot-2, 174 pound Watts, from New Waverly, Texas, was the wide receiver MVP at the National Underclassman.com Showcase. He then played one year at Kilgore College before coming COS.
A bio of Watts posted at www.govandals.com quotes head coach Robb Akey saying of Watts, “We expect him to come in here and be fighting for a job. We’re excited about him. We’re going to challenge him to make plays this fall.”
A recent article by Scott Ekund at JCFootball.com said Watts was one of the top junior college wideouts still uncommitted as of the last weekend in January.
Watts, according to the article, told JCFootball.com, “I committed to Idaho. They were my only offer, but I had a lot of other schools recruiting me.
“Western Michigan, Nevada, Grambling and Howard all were recruiting me, but on my trip (to the University of Idaho campus), I knew it was the best place for me and that's why I committed.”
A list supplied by Siskiyous head coach Charlie Roche includes the following Eagles who transferred to four year schools mid-year:
• Travis Hansen – University of Nevada – NCAA Division I. Hansen was a first team all conference linebacker.
• Defensive back Darius Anderson – Minot State University – NCAA Division II (www.msubeavers.com/news/2012/1/13/FB_0113125757.aspx).
• Justin Dietz – Gannon University – NCAA Division II. Dietz was a first team all-conference outside linebacker.
