A still shot of security footage from the Siskiyou County Courthouse was released this afternoon, and a $15,000 Secret Witness reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of two men who stole a large quantity of gold early Wednesday morning.
The suspects are described as follows:
• Suspect 1 is a white male adult 20 to 25 years old. He was wearing a mask, black short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and had white socks covering his hands. He was carrying a black and blue backpack. He is approximately 5’5” to 5’10” and of medium build.
• Suspect 2 is a white male adult 20 to 25 years old. He was also wearing a mask, black long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and brown gloves. He is approximately 5’5” to 5’10” and of medium build.
“The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to aggressively pursue investigative leads in this case,” said Sheriff Jon Lopey Friday afternoon, adding that he’s been “encouraged” by the evidence recovered so far.
Also helping with the investigation are the Yreka Police Department and the California Department of Justice are assisting us with the investigation, Lopey said.
“We have a team of highly skilled SCSO Detectives developing some promising leads,” Lopey said. “These thieves not only stole valuable gold that belongs to the people of Siskiyou County but these individuals violated the security and sanctity of our courthouse and stole a piece of our Siskiyou County history. We will not rest until the perpetrators are identified and held to answer for their crimes, and we are pleased that this reward fund has been made available.”
