Mount Shasta Police Chief Parish Cross offered hearty thanks to the businesses and people who support the PD’s annual Show and Shine during the first of 2011’s Labor Day weekend events Friday afternoon at Shastice Park.
“The barbecue kicks off the weekend with car owners and the community enjoying the food and the traditional ride through town,” Cross said. “I cannot thank enough the merchants and the community for their generous support of the department’s efforts.”
Prepared by Mount Shasta Super’s Keith Cool, the barbecue was preceded by a cruise through downtown Mount Shasta that had spectators lined up to see the classic cars strut their stuff.
The Show and Shine, scheduled for Saturday, brings more than 175 classic cars to the city with the proceeds supporting the police department’s Community Enhancement Program whose mission is to “assist in the education, prevention, health and safety of our community.”
Cross said that since the event was founded, the program has expanded beyond supporting the MSPD’s DARE program to include the Kidder Creek DARE camp, Halloween bags for Mount Shasta Elementary School students, bike helmets, high school scholarships, and the Mount Shasta Community Resource Center.
“Our main focus right now is the Resource Center,” Cross said. “The Resource Center is the mechanism to carry out our mission. It runs the full gamut helping and assisting young children, teenagers, elders, parents and behavioral health issues.”
Cross said he expects the Resource Center to get at least $1,000 from this year’s Show and Shine event.
