“I’ve gotten more from this class to apply to life than any other college course I’ve taken this far,” said College of the Siskiyous student Samantha Ford on the last day of her “Strong Individuals, Strong Communities” class in Spring 2011.

The two unit SISC course is scheduled to start Wednesday, Feb. 1. It will meet weekly from 4 to 6:50 p.m. at the Weed Campus.

It is designed to help students “develop organizational, leadership, communication and creativity skills while being inspired to greater workplace and community involvement effectiveness,” according to a press release from the college.

Community leaders and experienced co-instructors Joy Taylor and Diane Strachan say course participants in the past have included a diverse cross-section from the local communities – existing community leaders and emerging leaders, first time college students, business owners, managers, employees, non-profit volunteers, government agency staff and others who are interested in becoming more effective in their work and personal lives.

“The depth of exploration and inquiry the class offers facilitates profound and lasting change for a more positive and productive life,” said, Taylor.
