Ryan Geries won Wednesday’s CNISSF men’s snowboard giant slalom at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park on a course that was described as “icy and technical.”
Another Mount Shasta High School racer, Audrey Weston, placed second in the women’s GS on the third of four days of state championship events.
The season-ending 2010 California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation races are scheduled to conclude Thursday with a snowboard slalom.
Geries and Weston, the top snowboard scorers this season on the North 1 All-Division teams, lived up to their billing.
Geries’ two-run time of 120.25 seconds was nearly 2 1/2 seconds better than second place finisher Austin Leal of Colfax.
Geries joins his sisters, Rebecca and Emily, as a winner at the state championships.
Weston’s time of 131.28, placed her behind winner Caty O’Connor of Placer High (123.38) and ahead of third place finisher Kacey McKenzie of Oak Ridge High (132.97).
Yreka’s Tia Villani placed 5th in 136.08, and Kayla Wisler of Yreka was 19th.
The men’s field for Wednesday’s men’s snowboard GS had a field of 105 competitors.
Also from North 1, Tyler Sweet of Yreka placed 17th, Kevin Neilson of Mount Shasta 31st, Jonah Brenner of Mount Shasta 36th, Thad Schnack of Weed 38th and Eric Sumner of Yreka was 39th.
