A beautiful heart has stopped, but her memory will live forever.

Vera Hayes passed from this life on May 5, 2017 at the age of 96.

Vera was born in Oklahoma on April 10, 1921 to William and Mary McDonald, she was the 7th of their 10 children along with 12 of her father’s other children, she was one of 22 quite a family and with her passing the last McDonald child. With all those children life on the farm was hard and they all had to work but as she always said they never went hungry, and this was during the depression. She was the only high school graduate in her family she was only 16 and it was a great source of pride for her.

It was at this time she met the love of her life Edgar “Butch” Hayes, they married on June 25, 1937, a beautiful couple together they had four children, Mary Lee and Bill born in Oklahoma, Linda born in Southern California and Peggy born in Weed.

Moving to Weed around 1945 all the Hayes kids attended and graduated Weed schools. This was their home and they established firm roots in this town, Weed was home plain and simple.

Camping, fishing (she usually caught the most fish) were things she loved to do along with her needle work and growing flowers all things she passed to her kids and grandkids. There was nothing she couldn’t do if she set her mind to it, this was so true when she got her first driver’s license at the age of 56.

She lost her husband Butch Hayes in January 1977, just short of their 40th anniversary, he would forever be her one true love.

She is survived by her children Mary Lee Williams, Bill Hayes, Linda Frazier and Peggy Baltar, and by 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grand kids, 28 great-great grand kids and 2 great-great-great grand kids. They range in age from 60 to 6 months old. Being “Granny” was her greatest joy she loved us all and we knew it,
