Joseph Erro 95 of McCloud, California passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 8th, 2017 at Serenity Gardens in Redding, California. He was born February 4th 1922 in Merced, California. Joseph is survived by his wife of 75 years, Cassie Erro, sons: Clay Erro (Stephanie) and Mark Erro (Toni), six grandchildren: Gianna Erro, Hillary Butrico, Lia Antonucci, Michael Borchard, Ryan Erro, Vanessa Erro and his seven great-grandchildren.
Joseph’s family moved to Susanville where he graduated from high school at the top of his class. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy as a radio technician aboard the U.S.S. Guam in the Pacific. He returned to Susanville and married the love of his life, Cassie Bond. He worked for Fruit Growers Lumber Company as an electrician. He eventually moved to McCloud, California where he also worked as an electrician for the McCloud River Lumber Company. Joseph retired from the McCloud River Railroad where he was employed as a Communications Technician. He was a member of the McCloud Investment Club and also a Grand Mason of the McCloud Masonic Lodge.
Joseph found joy in continuing his love of radio communications as a lifelong amateur (HAM) radio operator. He loved spending time with his family and working outdoors on his property. You could find him on any given day down by his pond working with his dog by his side. His family noted him as the "animal whisper.” All the family pets were drawn to Joe. He found joy in the simple things in life. He loved sports and watching his children and grandchildren at their local high school events. Joseph loved working on his Model A and taking his grandchildren out for rides. Joseph will always be remembered as a hard worker and a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Burial Services will take place on June 26, 2017, at 1:00pm, at the McCloud Cemetery.
