After a courageous bout with cancer, Twila Neptune passed away on Memorial Day, May 29, 2017 surrounded by her family at the long time family home which she dearly loved and where she lived happily for many years.
Twila Lee Tracy was born on September 15, 1939 in Hamilton City, California. She was the youngest of five born to Harvey and Dorothy Tracy joining siblings Betty, Vernon, Golda and Robert. The family then moved to Vina where Twila attended Vina Grammar School. She graduated from Los Molinas High School. On September 7,1957 she married Jack Ochs and the couple welcomed two wonderful children: Kerri and Jeff. The family moved to Mt. Shasta in 1969. Following a divorce from Jack, Twila married James Neptune on April 25, 1981. From this marriage Twila acquired three lovely step-daughters: Debra, Christal and LeAnn and their families.
Twila was first and foremost a loving family person. She was a genuine homemaker, active in 4-H, Scouts and whatever interested her many family members and friends, young and old. She was always ready to help with their projects, games and fun. She gave of herself to family members who were sick or hurt and to friends who were in pain or going through hard times or often good times. She had a wonderfully giving, nurturing personality and easily brought happiness, laughter and joy to all who knew her. When her mother needed a caregiver, Twila was there alongside her siblings. She was proficient in cooking, baking, friendships, smiles and hugs. She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren of all ages. They loved her and her homemade bread and cookies.
A new adventure opened for Twila when she began working at the Mt. Shasta Branch of the Siskiyou County Library in 1973 and in 1993 transferred to the Siskiyou County Library Main Branch in Yreka where she remained until she retired in 1997. She was a sunny, cheerful and effective library staff member wherever she worked. With her happy smile and open heart, she was always pleasant and helpful to library patrons, especially the youngsters. Each time she departed a branch of the library she left many good and grateful friends of all ages.
Twila is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, James Neptune, her siblings Betty and Robert; daughter Kerri (Dale) Gilliam; son Jeff (Kim) Ochs; stepdaughter Debra (John) Payzant; stepdaughter Christal (John) Lightle; stepdaughter LeAnn (Johan) Dappert: 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was always a very special soul to all and she will be missed dearly. Her gentle smile, her generous nature, and her good humor brightened many lives. She was such great fun and a very special, caring friend, and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of Twila's life will take place at Hope Community Church, 974 Lassen Lane, Mt. Shasta on July 15, 2017 at 11am. The family would like everyone to join them at the church for a luncheon and happy reminiscing following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mt. Shasta Branch Friends of the Library, Mt. Shasta Hospice, or any organization of your choice to celebrate and remember this very special woman.
