Jerry K. Lensing, age 68, passed away peacefully September 10, 2017.

Jerry was born May 10, 1949, and grew up in Mount Shasta, California. He graduated from Mount Shasta High School in 1967.

After high school, he went on to play minor league baseball. Jerry pitched for the Cocoa Astros, and Pensacola Astros, both Houston Astros affiliates in the Florida State League, in 1968 and 1969.

Like many young men of the time, Jerry was drafted into the US Army in 1969 where he served as a helicopter mechanic assigned to the 15th Transportation Battalion Aircraft Maintenance Support, 1st Cavalry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and the Army Commendation Medal. He discharged with honors in 1971.

Jerry was a modest gentleman in a complex world. He enjoyed the basics: family, friends and fishing. His unassuming manner was genuine and endearing. His half smile as he joked with you, and belly-laugh when you finally caught on will live on forever.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen; and his father, Neil (Spike). He will be forever remembered by his mother, Vivian; his sons, Jason and Jordan; his brothers, Gene and Gordon; his sisters, Kathy and Janet; and his six grandchildren.

A Military Graveside Service in memory of Jerry is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, September 22 at Mount Shasta Memorial Chapel & Park.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Jerry to: Project Healing Waters, Redding, PO Box 990002, Redding CA 96099.
