Dolores Hilmona (Salinas) Jenkins, 88, received her wings at Madrone Hospice House on October 6, 2017.

"Dodie" was born to Hilmon and Ruth Salinas March 16, 1929. She was raised in Mount Shasta, graduating from Mount Shasta High School in 1947. During her Senior year, she climbed Mount Shasta, and also, winning a local radio contest, became Mount Shasta Snow Queen.

She attended San Jose State University, majoring in Commercial Art. There she met and married Ralph Simmons and began family life with daughters Lea and Diana and son Brad.

Dodie moved her family to Healdsburg, California, in 1964 and began work in the Display Department at J.C. Penney. She continued her career in retail display with Emporium-Capwell (Macy's) in Santa Rosa where she retired after 18 years to move back home to Siskiyou County to be near her aging parents.

She again found herself employed, managing the Display Department for J.C. Penney Co. in Yreka. She was also the recipient of an award for her work with the Junior Achievement Program. She worked until her second retirement in 1999.

Dodie loved bowling, even becoming famous for her "Turkey Dance" when someone bowled three strikes in a row! She loved art and fishing (and became part owner in Bingo Bug Fishing Lures.) She also loved all things outdoors in her beloved Siskiyou County, climbing Black Butte at age 70 and running the 4th of July race in Mount Shasta, winning her age division (at 72) in 2001. She always had a smile and hug for everyone she met.

Dodie was preceded in death by her siblings, Ted, Gene, and Charles Salinas; and also by her longtime companion Don Goudy.

She is survived by her daughters, Lea Simmons Christopher of Yreka, Diana Simmons Blankenship (Alan) of Weed, and Brad Simmons (Pam) of Healdsburg, California; plus her granddaughter Heather Simmons Varanini (Giancarlo) of San Francisco.

Graveside service will be at Mount Shasta Memorial Park on Saturday, November 11th at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Madrone Hospice House, Yreka, California.
