Dan Vanni passed away peacefully the evening of Dec. 2, he was 93.
Dan was born in Hilt, Ca. on Jan. 3rd, 1924 to Olympio and Louisa Vanni who emigrated from Italy. He spent his early years in Hilt and then moved to Mt. Shasta with his family where he would finish his school years and graduate in 1942. He immediately enlisted in the Air Force and spent his WWII years flying in a bomber crew over Italy and Eastern Europe with over 50 raids recorded.
When the war was over he returned to Mt. Shasta where he met and married Beatrice Barron. In 1948 they started Wonderland Distributing, a beer and wine distributing company in Mt. Shasta. They worked hand in hand to get their company established and growing in Siskiyou County. Along the way they had two sons who loved the area and went to work with them after each graduated. The company is still in business and is still owned and operated by their family sixty nine years later. Dan spent many hours chasing his sons around sporting activities and teaching them to hunt and fish. He was a benefactor to many local youth organizations and many other non-profit groups that needed his help. Always there for others but never seeking recognition for his efforts.
After retirement in 1989 Dan stayed busy golfing, swimming, hunting and being a taxidriver for his grandchildren which all lived in Mt. Shasta! In 2014 he lost the love of his life Bea after 66 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his son Douglas and granddaughter Stacey. He is survived by his son Richard and daughter in-law Chere. Granddaughters Heather, Jennifer and Jessica. Grandsons Tim, Ryan and Zac and 8 great grandchildren.
Dan was a special man who gave his all to his family and the community he called home. Big Dan was known and loved by all as a warm, caring man and who was fiercely loving and supportive of his family.
We will miss our Nini
