Bradlee Vernon Fortna of Mount Shasta, CA passed away after a hard-fought battle with Lymphoma on January 1, 2017 in Duarte, CA. He was 54.
Brad was born in Yuba City, California on February 23, 1963 to Larry Fortna and Caryl Dent. He attended school in Yuba City, and graduated in 1981. He was a very active swimmer, tennis player, and photographer, and served as DeMolay President during his high school years. He attended the University of Oregon to study architecture. He came to the Sacramento area in 1982 to work and attend Sacramento City College, and shortly thereafter met the love of his life, Cheryl Lynne Trevelyan. They were married on December 15, 1984. He served in the Air Force National Guard for four years. In 1986, he moved to Siskiyou County to purchase his father’s business, and began the work that he loved as owner of Siskiyou Pest Control (later called Sisson IRC). He later attended part-time at both UC Berkeley and UC Davis in Entomology and participated in many research projects in that area of study.
Bradlee was involved in many organizations over the years. He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in the community; he was especially involved with any activity that his three daughters were involved in. He was instrumental fighting for legislature in California to advocate for children with disabilities in schools across the state. He was a ski instructor at the ski park in his down time, and began the Ski Program through the elementary and middle schools in Mt. Shasta. He was President of the Board of the Siskiyou Opportunity Center, an active member of the Mt. Shasta Boosters from 2000-2016, served as President of the board for Stable Hands, and his favorite service: he was Mt. Shasta High School’s golf coach from 2004-2017. Bradlee spent his time enjoying life to the fullest, and one of his happiest places was at the Mount Shasta Resort, with his friends and family. Some of his other favorite places included Disneyland, any IMAX theatre, and any place he could socialize.
He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Fortna of Sun River, Oregon, his step sister, Mary Anne, and his beloved grandmothers Esther Fortna-Forsythe and Lola Case of Yuba City, CA.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lynne Fortna of Mount Shasta, and his children, Tiffany Fortna Ball (Eric) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Tristan “Sissy” Fortna of Mount Shasta, CA, Kim Denny (Ryan) of Ladera Ranch, CA, and his grandson, Aiden Ball of Highlands Ranch, CO; his mother Caryl Dent (Bill Dent) of Mount Shasta, his siblings, Eric Trailer (Jennifer) of Palo Alto, Carrie Fortna Wright (Steve) of Colorado Springs, CO, his step brother, Brad Jonas of Colorado.
