Shirley Ann Micklos, born March 26, 1930 in Denver, Colorado, passed peacefully with family by her side on January 27, 2018 in Weed.
Shirley spent her early years growing up on a farm in Colorado in a large happy family. The Specht family later relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where Shirley attended San Mateo High School.
Soon after high school, she met the love of her life, Charles “Lindy” Micklos. They were married and raised two children, Jeff and Judy, in San Bruno, CA. While raising their children, Shirley worked at various jobs in the Bay Area until Lindy’s retirement in the 1970’s.
They moved to their vacation property in Round Mountain, CA., built their home from lumber of their own trees, next to a large pond where many ducks, geese, toads, and frogs made their home or stopped off during their migration. Shirley enjoyed a life of sustainability and self-sufficiency. She and Lindy tended a small orchard and garden from which they prepared their meals and canned fruits and vegetables for the winter.
With a love and fondness for all animals, Shirley raised cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens and had many animals as pets and friends throughout her lifetime. These included mules, ducks, geese, and many dogs and cats.
After Lindy passed, Shirley moved to Siskiyou County to live near her son, Jeff and family. In 2003, they purchased a small organic farm in Grenada, CA. Shirley lived her remaining years on the farm, tending chickens, collecting eggs, working in her flower garden, and processing food raised on the farm. Her homemade potato chips were loved by all. Strong and independent until her final days, Shirley lived a creative life and will be fondly remembered and loved.
Shirley Ann Micklos is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles “Lindy” Micklos and her daughter, Judy Ann Tornell, sisters: Lorraine, Rosalie, and Josie, and brother, Burnett. Shirley is survived by her son, Jeff Micklos, grandsons Skye and Sean Micklos, and brother Gary Specht.
