Wallis Dee (Wally) Billington passed away peacefully with his wife, Janice (Buckley) by his side, at Pomerado Hospital after a short bout with pneumonia. He was 87. Born in Globe, AZ, to Sidney Maurice Billington and Laura Wallis Billington, he grew up in AZ until 1939, when he moved with his parents, brother and sister, to Oregon for a couple of years, then to Dunsmuir, CA, where he graduated from Dunsmuir High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in March 1951 and was discharged in March 1955. During that time, he met his first wife, Ruth Barry Grauer; they were married in April 1955.

Ruth brought two sons from a prior marriage to their union. In January 1956, their daughter, Laura Rachel was born. Wally graduated from Armstrong College in Berkeley, CA with a degree in Accounting in 1958. After working at a couple of jobs that offered little opportunity for advancement, he landed a job with promise at Mobil Oil Corp., where he worked his way up through the credit and audit departments to become the Operations Audit Dept. Administrator. After working for Mobil for 25 years, he retired in 1990. Unfortunately, Ruth fell ill on their first cross-country road trip; she passed away only 10 months later in April 1991. In May 1992, he married Janice Buckley, a woman he knew from work. After Jan retired in 1995, they moved from Virginia to Ramona and lived there ever since.

Over his lifetime, Wally was enthusiastic about piloting small planes, boating, photography and golfing. He cruised on many seas and enjoyed numerous visits to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park.

He is survived by his wife, Janice, his daughter, Laura (Stephen) Disselkoen, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his stepson, Barry Billington, his brother, Victor (Carol) Billington, and his sister, Joan Conte, many nieces and nephews, not to mention many dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents and stepson, William Kille.

Services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation in his name to the charity of your choice.
