Robert Edgar (“Bob”) Krausse passed away peacefully on February 28th, with his wife Ethel and other family at his side. He was 89 years old.
Bob was born in Alameda, California in1928 and spent his formative years there. In 1939, he moved to Mt. Shasta and was enrolled in the very same elementary school at which he would eventually serve as principal and superintendent.
Bob would return to attend high school in Alameda before joining the U.S. Army for two separate enlistments - in Korea and on Okinawa, Japan. Upon completing his military service, Bob moved to the Los Angeles area, where he worked in an aircraft factory, married, and started a family. In addition, he attended community college in the evenings. Eventually, Bob earned a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Long Beach State College, and later, a master’s degree from Chico State – collective accomplishments that would forever change the course of his life.
Bob returned to Mount Shasta in 1962 and embarked on a 30-year career in education, landing a teaching position at Mt. Shasta Elementary School, where he later became principal and superintendent before finally retiring in 1989. During his career, Bob mentored scores of teachers and was beloved by many of the thousands of students who attended MSES. Many relate stories of how he counseled them through difficult times or helped them realize their potential.
But Bob's life won't only be remembered for what he accomplished in the classroom, but also for what he accomplished as a husband, father and grandfather. In 1984, Bob married Ethel Tygerson and they retired to Brookings, Oregon in 1989. For these past 29 years, “Silly Pa and Grandma E” enjoyed beyond measure the great love and good times provided by their nine children, 20 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Together, the Krausses spent summers at Medicine Lake, traveled, and enjoyed visits from family and friends near and far.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters Toni (Bill) Bookman, Terri (Ted) Barton, Julie (Greg) Olender, and Jennie Krausse; son Mark (Jennifer) Krausse; stepdaughters Susan Tygerson and Margie Belcher Tygerson; stepsons Dave (Kelly) and Gary (Lori) Tygerson; grandchildren Wes (Lacey), Garrett (Alexandria), Katelyn, Jake, Tyler, and Olivia Tygerson, Kjellen, Ty, and Grant Belcher, Brandon (Jessica), Todd, Asher and Talia Krausse, Amber (Josh) Guembes, Alana and Tess Barton, Natalie, Loni and Jay Olender, and Sophie Marconi; and great grandchildren Meryln and Gates Tygerson, Jayden and Domenic Guembes, and Abigail and Charlotte Krausse.
Through both his family and the many friends he loved, Bob will also be survived by his wit and kindness, and for the gratitude he maintained for all that life provided him. But most of all, Bob will be remembered for his insatiable thirst to learn more about life and those whom he loved.
At Bob's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Shasta Rotary Foundation, PO Box 23, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067 to benefit the Bob Krausse Scholarship Fund.
