Carl Keith Lycans, 83, died at home on the morning of June 19, 2018. He had recently undergone hospitalization at the V.A. Hospital of Reno, NV, and immediately following discharge, a short hospitalization at Renown Medical Center of Reno, NV.

Carl was born in West Virginia in the “Haller” on December 13, 1934, where he lived with his mother, Ruth Lycans, and aunt and uncle until he was a teenager. He then moved to California and ended up in Manteca, California with his mother, brothers, and twin sisters. Upon entering high school, he met his future wife, Charleen Marie Candini. They were married April 27, 1952.

Carl joined the Air Force and remained in the military 10 ½ years. Upon leaving the military, Carl moved his family to Dunsmuir, California. He went into business for a period of time with Archie de la Montanya who owned the Richfield gas station and towing service. He later was able to acquire a job as a fireman with Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a conductor upon retiring after 30+ years.

Charleen preceded his death, dying December 17, 2016. Carl and Charleen are survived by their two living children John Keith Lycans of Sparks, Nevada and Linda Marie Lycans Harvey, husband Daniel Thomas Harvey of Portola, California. He also has two grandchildren, Michael James Lycans of Reno, Nevada and Amy Jo Lycans Jones, husband Chris Jones and two great-grandchildren Henry Jones and Wyatt Jones of Sparks, Nevada.

Carl was an expert in deer hunting and bass fishing. He kept himself in excellent condition and was able to continue to enjoy his hunting and fishing until the time of his death.

A memorial will take place later in the year.
