Geraldine “Joy” Orr, a resident of Weed, passed away on January 31, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. She was 97.
Joy was born in Santa Ana, California on February 12, 1912. She moved to Siskiyou County from Santa Ana in 1915.
Joy and her first husband, Gus Georges, owned the Dew Drop Inn in Weed and also the Exxon Service Station.
Joy was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed and Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, flower arrangements and reading.
Survivors include her son, Warren and his wife Barbara Georges of San Francisco; daughter, Diane and her husband Matt Ammirati of Weed; brothers, John and his wife Mary Green of Rocklin, and George Green of Carlotta; two grandsons, Joseph (and Terry) Ammirati and Charles (and Barbara) Ammirati; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Nicole Ammirati.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gus Georges in 1964; and her second husband, Raymond Orr in 1971.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 4 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed with Father Conception officiating. Burial is at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park in Mount Shasta.
