Norma Jean Otrin was born at home in Chicago, Illinois on June 4, 1917. Her parents, Gregory and Anna Bukala immigrated from Poland.
She had one older sister, Bertha; and three younger brothers, Walter, Edward and the youngest, Theodore, who is the only surviving sibling.
On September 23, 1939, Norma married Albert Otrin. This last year marked their 70th anniversary. They have two sons, Robert and Ronald Otrin; and four grandchildren.
Norma and Albert began their retirement in 1980 by moving from Chicago to Adin, California. Then in 1996 they moved to Mount Shasta’s Eskaton George Washington Manor.
Due to complications with hip surgery in June 2007, Norma moved to Mercy Care Center and she had three enjoyable years there. Albert was able to visit her daily and they had many enjoyable meals together.
One month ago Norma moved to Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland, Oregon. That is where she passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010, after a short illness.
There will be a memorial service this Friday, August 20 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mount Shasta. Viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.; mass will begin at noon. A reception will follow in the hall.
