Marjorie Mae Hayes of Gazelle, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of March 1, 2010 in the company of family and friends; she was 91. Known by so many as Grandma Marge, she was a long time resident of Gazelle, and leaves four children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
Marge was born to Floyd and Mae Wright in Kearney, Nebraska on May 20, 1918. She was the oldest of the five Wright girls, Betty Fuller, Opal Webb, Donna Scheller and Dee Dee Davidson.
Marge came to southern California with her parents as a young girl in 1924. She moved to Gazelle from Spokane, Washington in 1947 with her first husband, Glen English, and three young children.
She is survived by her children: Susan, and her husband Mike Seal, of Edgewood; Darlene, and her husband Elwood Sullivan, also of Edgewood; and her son, Glen Richard (Dick) English of Lake Shastina. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and friends she touched over the years.
Marge is preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Casterline of Gazelle; her husband, Tony Hayes; and her sisters, Betty and Donna.
Marge was a member of several local churches and taught Sunday school for many years. With her husband Tony, she operated the Pacific Café in Gazelle for several years. She raised and sold raccoons for a number of years, and was included in the book Wild Pets.
A memorial service will be held at the Gazelle Cemetery on Gazelle-Callahan Road on Monday, March 8 at 2 p.m. to be followed by a potluck at the Gazelle Grange. All who knew her are invited to come celebrate her long and full life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Mt. Shasta Hospice, the Gazelle Community Church or the Gazelle Grange.
