“Choc” Homer T. West Jr., a lifelong resident of Weed, California, passed away on January 9, 2010, following a short illness. He was 64.
Choc was born to Homer T. West and Kathy West Leonetti on July 18, 1945.
Having never married, he worked early on in the woods fighting fires and later planting trees.
In later years he traveled with our sister Juanice. They were a couple of vagabonds, but he loved her so — wherever she went, he was sure to follow.
After she passed away he settled once again in Weed, working at Silva’s Restaurant until a congestive heart disability forced him into early retirement.
Not wanting to sit around and grow old, he started attending Madrone Adult Center. All the wonderful staff and fellow attendees became like a second family to him. He had the great capacity to make friends wherever he went.
Our family extends an extra thanks to those good folks at Madrone. The three days a week he spent there was like a rebirth to Choc; our family is so grateful for the love and friendships he formed.
We also thank all the kind staff at Mercy Mt. Shasta hospital, they were so kind and thoughtful through this process.
Choc was preceded in death by his parents, Homer T. West and Kathy Leonetti; and sister, Janet Juanice West.
Survivors include his brother, Robert (and Elsie) West; sister, Lisa (and George) Whitmer of Weed; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends, etc. near and far.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel with pastor Ray Horst officiating. Refreshments will follow at the Weed Golf Course. Please join us and share your fondest memories of Choc as we celebrate his life.
His ashes will be laid to rest at Winema Cemetery in Weed.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Madrone Adult Day Care Center, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
Arrangements were made by Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel.
