A memorial service will be held at the United Presbyterian Church of Reedsport, Oregon, Thursday, August 12 at 2:00 for William Daniel “Dan” Sloan of Reedsport who died August 1 at the age of 77.
Dan was born September 8, 1932 to William and Hattie (Philipps) Sloan in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The family moved to Northern California while he was growing up; from there he joined the army in 1953. He married Betty Zeigler on July 31, 1954 in McCloud, California. He spent his career as a machinist in lumber mills first in Northern California and then after they moved to the Reedsport area thirty years ago.
Bill was a member of the Order of the Mason’s in McCloud and Dunsmuir, California, the Scottish Rite of Sacramento and the Fireman’s Association of McCloud. Betty preceded him in death on October 7, 2000. He is survived by his Daughter Danna Tollefson, of Reedsport, Oregon; three grandsons Bill Tollefson, of Reedsport; Stephen DuVal of Hillsboro, Oregon; and Carter DuVal of Oakland, California; and one granddaughter Lydia Tollefson of Central Point.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital. Oregon. Dunes Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
