Lourene Bishop, a resident of Fairfield for 33 years, died of complications from a stroke at Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville on February 20, 2010. She was 92.

Lourene was born in Roosevelt, Minnesota on April 18, 1917. She grew up on a farm with five brothers who always tried to get her to do their work. They also tried to beat her at card games, but usually to no avail. “Little Lourene” was a very competitive card player.

After high school graduation, Lourene moved with her family to Mount Shasta, California, and it was there she met her husband, Albert Bishop. They married on July 3, 1940, and moved to McCloud where they raised two daughters and lived for 40 years.

In McCloud Lourene was well known for her culinary skills — in particular her cinnamon rolls, oatmeal cookies, and lemon meringue pies. She also loved playing golf, bingo, and bridge.

In 1973 Lourene and Al moved to Fairfield to be near their grandchildren and later their great-grandchildren. She loved them all very much, and she enjoyed teaching them card games, feeding them gourmet meals, taking them golfing, and babysitting them whenever possible.

Lourene was a very giving person who always had time for her family and friends. She will be missed by all of them.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Bev and Gerry Tigert of Vacaville and Pat and Steve Davis of Fairfield; two grandsons, Chad (and Julie) Tigert and Keith Tigert of Vacaville; and five great-grandchildren, Allie and Cole Tigert and Kayla, Kaytlin, and Kyle Tigert of Vacaville.

At Lourene’s request there will be no formal services. The immediate family will celebrate her life with a private ceremony.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home of Fairfield.
