Kenneth Richardson, a Mount Shasta native and lifelong area resident, passed away on August 10, 2010 at the Shepherd of God Assisted Living facility in Grenada, California, where he and his wife of 65 years, Bobbie, have resided for the past three years.
Ken was born on December 5, 1925.
Ken enlisted in the US Marine Corps right out of high school and served his country proudly in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Being a Marine was an honor that he cherished throughout his life.
After recovering in the Bay Area from wounds received on Tarawa Island in the Pacific, Ken began his civilian career as a laborer for the California Highway Department. His father, George Richardson, had also worked for the department before Ken.
Ken continued to work for Caltrans for 39 years until he retired as Siskiyou Assistant District Supervisor of Highways.
Ken was an avid rifleman and hunter who loved the outdoors, and thought that Mount Shasta was the most beautiful place on earth. He was a Mason and member of the Fire Department and Rod and Gun Club.
Ken is survived by his wife, Bobbie; brothers, Aaron and Gary Richardson of Mount Shasta; sister, Naomi June of Tucson, Arizona; son, Ken Richardson of Mount Shasta; daughter, Kay Van Dyke of Sacramento; grandchildren, Tracie Oreck, Stephanie Richardson, Kenneth Scott, Ryan Van Dyke, Charlin Wright, and Randi Kay Viegas. He was also the proud great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren.
Ken will be forever missed and never forgotten by his loving family and friends.
A Memorial service was held on Saturday, August 14 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park in Mount Shasta.
