Ray Alvin Torrey, a resident of Mount Shasta, passed away on July 1, 2009 at Mercy Care Center in Mount Shasta. He was 84.
Ray was born in Albany, Oregon on September 30, 1924. He moved to Siskiyou County from Washington in 1945.
Ray was a veteran of the US Navy serving with the Pacific Fleet during World War II.
Ray was a former owner of Seaside Gas Station in Mount Shasta and Dunsmuir Auto Parts Store. He was also a former Siskiyou County Supervisor.
Ray enjoyed gold dredging, hunting, fishing and raising cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Jeraldine Torrey of Mount Shasta; two daughters, Beverly Lee Shannon and Barbara Rae Fitzhugh, both of Mount Shasta; a sister, Dorene Wheeler of Olivehurst, California; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held today, July 8 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
